CartWheels Before & After School Program

Philosophy
The CartWheels Academy Before & After school program believes
that children need positive and structured care which includes homework
support, supplemental instruction project guidance, breakfast/snacks and
scheduled free time. Our positive approach to structured before and after
school care focuses on the development of time management, physical, emotional,
cognitive and social skills. The Before and After school program provides
an individual learning environment and allows each child to develop at
his or her own pace. Our homework support and supplemental instruction
is grade level appropriate and will help prepare your child for the academic
school day. CartWheels offers a unique opportunity to develop their social
and physical skills through structured free time activities. We believe
children need a positive environment, guidance, understanding and age-appropriate
limits to help them function in their world.
Goals
Our primary goal is to work on the total development of each
child. The program is designed to provide opportunities, which will enable
and encourage the child to develop the following goals:
- Foster a positive self-esteem
- Encourage children to think, reason and experiment
- Encourage independence and self-direction
- Encourage social relationships with peers and adults
- Encourage and demonstrate sound health, safety and nutritional practices
- Homework support and supplemental instruction
- Project guidance/assistance
- An interest and joy in learning
- Having a responsible, respectful, and caring attitude for self, peers, and adults
- Weekly communication between parents and staff
Before and After School Program!
CartWheels Before and After school program will offer supervised
settings for grade levels PreK-8th Grade. Each setting will be offered 5
days per week according to the Powhatan school calendar. Morning and afternoon
sessions are available on a full time or part time basis. Group size will
be no more than 13 students in a classroom. Each group will have at least
one qualified supervising adult.
